I’ve decided not to blame the stars
for wishes that never came true.
Because maybe the lights I wished on,
were just airplanes.
LET THEM EAT CAKE Move over Black Forest Cake: It’s Black Deforestation Cake. This weekend, a Black Deforestation Cake made by Apocalypse Cakes’ Shannon O’Malley and Calico Pie’s Yasmin Golan (formerly of Chez Panisse) took second prize at a juried cake competition at Omnivore Books.
YUUUUUMY!
The cake consisted of several layers of chocolatey goodness joined by a filling of boozy cherries and frosting and featured white frosting on top — well, across half the top, sprinkled with a few cherries and a lone tree decoration. Slices were served from all around the tree, leaving it towering precariously atop the diminished layers in the center of its giant plate covered with cake debris.
Yes, cakes are serious business in this town, and now they’re political, too.
I’m Claire, and this is my newest tattoo, and my favorite one so far. “You be the anchor that keeps my feet on the ground” is important and significant to me for two reasons. One, it is part of the title of a song by one of my favorite bands, Mayday Parade. The whole title of the song is “you be the anchor that keeps my feet on the ground, and I’ll be the wings that keep your heart in the clouds.” This band, is mine and my best friend, Sarah’s favorite band and this song, along with many others, has helped us both through some hard times. The second reason why this tattoo holds so much meaning is because the two people who are my anchors are Sarah, and my boyfriend, Shayler (drew the anchors that are now permanently tattooed on my body).
This tattoo was done by Turbo, at TURBOink in Tempe, Arizona.
